Skills Required to be a Voice Artiste

Ah, now we’re talking. Stop dreaming, start working.
An arresting baritone might be the last thing you need. Of course, there are different requirements for the various spaces in voice industry.

Voice Overs

Do heads turn when you speak?

Clarity is the absolute given. Next is comprehension - what you are projecting or selling. Are you speaking one-on-one or addressing a huge audience? Match your tone necessary to your understanding. The final voice recording should sound ‘educated’, because people look up to broadcast voices – whether an ad or a docu/corporate.

You better be really good at the language you choose.

And yes, if you have an arresting voice, it’s a definite advantage – Sone pe suhaga! – a windfall you never expected!

Voice Acting

If you think you can be someone else as you speak, this is for you. Don’t worry about your language prowess or a baritone. Having fun while you work is extremely important here.

Just make sure that your rendering matches the character on screen. This is a tall order though!

Radio Jockeying

Now this is a completely different ball game. Here, voice is only a medium. The important thing is what you think, your point of view and, above all, your style.

Are you a raconteur? A good storyteller? Are you life of a party? Are you given to speaking to yourself when you find no audience?

If you have a good microphone voice and a style that conquers, then you are the top of the heap!
